A few months ago, we held the 10th annual “What the American Flag Means to Me” essay contest, and today at the Bay Head School, in Bay Head, NJ, the winner, Penny Demetriades, got a change to fly in a tethered hot-air balloon, with pilot Sally Mazzocchi.
Penny was one of over 4,000 essay submissions entered into the essay contest, and along with winning a tethered hot-air balloon ride, she will also be flying up, up, and away in a hot-air balloon ride at the QuickChek NJ Festival of Ballooning this July! She also won tickets to see R5 in concert at the festival, as well as meet and greet tickets to meet them, including Ross Lynch!
Pictured below is Penny in the tethered hot-air balloon at her school, and her classmates got to watch the whole thing and loved every second of it, and so did Penny! Her teacher, along with the rest of her classmates, each will receive a complimentary ticket to the festival as well.
This event was attended by William MacDonald, of PNC Bank, and covered by The Star Ledger, Asbury Park Press, and News12.
Congrats Penny!
